2011 Award for the Promoter of Arts Education

The Award for the Promoter of Arts Education is an annual honour bestowed by the Museums Council in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture. The title of 2010 Promoter of Arts Education was given to Jelena Tšekulajeva of the Kumu Art Museum, who received the award for a contemporary arts education programme directed under the 4K method.

2010 Estonian Museum Souvenir Award (EMMA)

Awards for the best Estonian museum souvenirs were presented at the 13th Estonian Museums Festival. The top prize went to the Kumu Art Museum for its retro-style net shopping bag – one of the most typical items symbolic of the Soviet era.

The Great Museum Rat Award for 2009/2010, or the Year's Best Exhibition

At the "Museum Rat" awards competition for 2010, the prize for the best exhibition went to the Kumu Art Museum exhibition Ülo Õun. Artist Interrupted. The exhibition curator was Juta Kivimäe.

Letter of Thanks from the Ministry of Education and Research

to the Art Museum of Estonia for developing educational programmes and conducting art projects for young people, and for creating conditions for acquiring art-related knowledge and skills in an informal learning environment.

European Museum of the Year Award 2008 (EMYA)

The Kumu Art Museum was declared the winner of the European Museum of the Year Award 2008. Of the 140 candidates that were nominated, thirty-eight candidates from a total of 20 countries were invited to make presentations about their museums at the final event, which took place at the National Museum of Ireland in Dublin.

The Kumu building received international recognition

The European Copper in Architecture Campaign acknowledged the new Art Museum of Estonia building in 2007, by noting Kumu's interesting use of materials and elegant overall design.

2007 International Architecture Award for the Best Global Design

The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design included the Kumu Art Museum as one of the buildings that it honoured for best global architectural design in 2007.

The 2006 Year's Best Award of the Estonian Hotel and Restaurant Association (EHRL)

The members of the EHRL recognised the completion and opening of Kumu, which is the headquarters of the Art Museum of Estonia, as deserving of the 2006 Year's Best Award at the national level.

The 2006 Achievement of the Year token of thanks  by the Estonian Union of Persons with Mobility Disabilities

was presented to the Kumu Art Museum for providing a friendly environment for people with reduced mobility.

The 2006 Nordic Pearl of Light

was awarded by the Tallinn City Government for Kumu's lighting solution.

UNICEF Annual Bluebird Prize

was awarded to the Art Museum of Estonia for the work it has done with children.

Annual Award 2006 of the Cultural Endowment of Estonia

The recipients of the Annual Award of the Figurative and Applied Arts Foundation included Kumu Art Museum curator Tiina Abel and the Kumu Education Centre.

Acknowledged Security Solution 2006

was presented by the Estonian Association of Security Companies for the security solution at Kumu, which opened in 2006.

2005 Concrete Structure of the Year, the special Builder's Award

The winners of the 2005 Concrete Structure of the Year Awards were announced at the 6th Concrete Day, held at Kumu, by the Concrete Association of Estonia. Sixteen projects were submitted to the competition. The Merko Ehitus firm was awarded the special Builder's Award for the Kumu building.
